Bill Hayes joined daytime in 1970 when he was cast as Doug Williams. Hayes left the role in 1984 but returned in 1986 and continues to make return guest appearances.

Hayes has been married to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie, Days of our Lives) since 10/12/1974. Hayes was previously married to Mary Hobbs (02/1947-1969) and they had five children: Carrie (b. 03/21/1948), William Jr. (b. 10/28/1949), Cathy (b. 03/1951), Thomas (b. 05/1954) and Margaret (b. 01/12/1956).
