Thigpen was an accomplished stage actress winning a Tony Award in 1997 for An American Daughter. Thigpen appeared as The Chief on Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego. Thigpen appeared on The District was 2000 until her death in 2003. Thigpen died on March 12, 2003 of a cerebral hemorrhage.
